It's official! Flights are booked and we're headed back to Alaska this summer for a visit! I am beyond excited, and my mom is secretly fearing we won't come home. But until then, let the reminiscing continue...
Homer is a city located on the Kenai Peninsula, approximately 4 hours south of Anchorage. Long known as the "halibut fishing capital of the world", Homer's history is built on resources, such as fish, furs, gold and coal. Situated on the shore of Kachemak Bay, Homer's most distinguishing feature is the Homer Spit, a narrow 7.2 km long gravel bar that extends into the bay and houses the harbour, many restaurants, small shops and an inn.

We visited Homer with friends on our last weekend in Alaska. We wanted to go out with a bang, and that we did. While the odds were not in our favour to go out fishing on the Bay, we did enjoy exploring the Spit, seeing some familiar sights like the Time Bandit and Salty Dawg Saloon, both made famous by Discovery's Deadliest Catch, taking in the beauty of the surrounding mountains and most importantly, spending quality time with friends that we have to wait another 6 months to see again.

I have only been to Alaska once, when I was 14, but it was a truly memorable experience. I loved Homer when we visited! Thanks for putting this fond memory back in my mind :-)
