"To my mind, hunting and fishing is the big lure that takes us into the great open spaces and teaches us to forget the mean and petty things in life."
- Leon Leonwood Bean
Some of the best fish that we have ever tasted we caught with our own two hands. We didn't mind getting down and dirty, if it meant filling our freezer and bellies. Sometimes we were more successful than others, and sometimes I was just more successful than Steve.
One of the best experiences we ever had was catching a salmon and then eating it hours after it was pulled out of the water. Nothing fancy, just a little butter, dill and lemon on the BBQ... Mouth watering. I even got to fillet that baby.

Alaska has some of the best fishing in the world and is an angler's absolute dream. Fishing is a way of life up there, and we were hooked.

Pretty proud of that fish. Between Steve and I, that baby holds the record.
Do you enjoy eating fish? Do you have any memorable fishing experiences? I'd love to hear!
I think the best part of this would be eating that fresh halibut and salmon-- YUM! And impressive catch!

Thank you! The salmon weighed around 25 pounds. Pretty heavy! Its crazy to think some people catch ones even bigger than that! Fresh halibut and salmon is the best.
DeleteI adore all fish, but salmon is one of my absolute favourites! I wish I had some luck at fishing! I'd be over the moon thrilled to have done as well as you! That salmon was HUGE!
ReplyDeletehaha Thanks. I was pretty surprised when I felt that thing on the end of my line!
DeleteGreat pics! I love fishing in Alaska. It really is the best.
ReplyDeleteThanks! It really is. So many good memories.
DeleteI love fish! It's the only meat I eat unless we're traveling and I want to try a certain dish that's authentic to that country. The BEST fish I've ever had was Alaskan Halibut. My mouth starts to water when I think of it. My dad caught it himself in Alaska and shipped it overnight back home to us in Tennessee. Never had any fish as good since...
ReplyDeleteI have to agree, halibut is my fave too. Some of the best dinners we've had were making fish and chips from the fresh halibut we had just caught that weekend with friends.
DeleteMiss the days growing up of catching halibut and putting down crab pots and having a big crab boil at the end of the day with fried halibut and hush puppies! Such good memories!
ReplyDeleteWhat great memories! We always did a fresh fish and chips dinner when we got back from a halibut trip. So tasty. We're planning a trip back this summer and plan on going out on the Sound for a long weekend. So excited!! My mouth waters just thinking of it.
DeleteThat is one HUGE fish! I love going fishing! It's just too bad where I go, there's barely any fish left and the one place you're guaranteed to catch some, they're inedible due to the pollution in the river....
ReplyDeleteThat is too bad. Is it in a lake? Catch and release fishing is still fun!
