The thing about the hockey industry is that your career can end at any moment, your choice or not. Without going into too much detail, the choice to "hang up the skates" was all his, and I'm proud of him for making it on his own terms.
He's gone amazing places these past 10+ years and has a resume to be proud of - captaincy, championships and call ups are just a few. He's gone from city to city, state to state, on early am flights and overnight on buses. Not to mention, made many treasured friendships and memories.
To say it will be an adjustment is an understatement. Playing hockey is all he's ever known. Him playing hockey is all I've ever known since I met him 11 years ago. While I'm sad to see this chapter come to a closer, I'm excited to see what the next has in store.
Top of my bucket list is a European trip with my boyfriend.

ReplyDeletePlans do change and it's very commendable of your husband to have made the decision - it must be pretty hard when it's what you've been doing for so long. I wish him and you as well good luck in your future plans!
ReplyDeleteOh I have been seeing those scratchy maps everywhere, they are so cool! My bucket list includes so many things it's hard to say what is at the top - for the foreseeable future, as I am moving to Scotland, I would say that it's hopefully making it to the Isle, like Skye and Mull! I wanted to head there so much last time I lived there and never made it!
Germany, Iceland or a road trip across the country:) Good luck in your new adventures!
