Have you discovered the power of podcasts yet?
No? Well it’s about time you do.
Whether you have an interest in business, art or sports, enjoy getting outside, are a new mom, etc., there is a podcast for YOU!
And now, thanks to the power of technology, it’s easier than ever to find, subscribe and listen to tens of thousands of podcasts on every imaginable topic.
There are many reasons to listen to podcast. Here are my top five reasons for loving podcasts:
They inspire you. Some of my favourite podcasts are listening to people’s stories and backgrounds, especially those that have started their own businesses. As a blogger and business owner myself, it inspires me when I hear others’ stories - to know that the hard work and dedication that they have put into their business are worth it, much like I do with mine.
They help pass the time. Podcasts are perfect to pop on during your commute to and from work, whether in the car (like my husband) or on public transit (like myself). They help to pass the time on a boring drive or a crowded subway. For me, listening to people talk about a topic I enjoy listening to makes the time pass much quicker than listening to music.
They help you escape (even just for a few minutes). I listen to podcasts for the entertainment value but also as a way to focus on something different than what you deal with daily. I rarely have time to sit down and read a book anymore as an escape, so listening to a podcast while on the go instead allows me to get out of my own head once in a while. Also, if I’m listening to a podcast about the outdoors or travel, I often find myself dreaming of our next outdoor adventure or vacation.
They’re available wherever and whenever. Unlike streaming your favourite radio station, etc. on your phone, listening to podcasts do not require wifi or data. As long as you have the episode downloaded (which does require data), you can literally listen to them wherever and whenever you want - even underground on the subway!
They’re free! While I do enjoy listening to one of my favourite artists’ new song or even their entire album, those cost money to buy and download. The majority of podcasts are absolutely free, making them budget-friendly and an easy choice!
You know what else makes listening to podcasts easy? The headphones you use.
Catching up on the latest podcast with two kids in tow, be it in the car, on a walk or at home, can often be a challenge. Whether it's my oldest needing to hear her favourite show on TV or asking for a snack, or my youngest telling me when she's awake from her nap, there is always something going on in our house that I need to be able to hear. I want to listen to the latest podcast episode, but I don’t necessarily want to put in typical headphones to drown out the noise. (Although, some days that would be nice…) I need to be able to hear what’s going on around me.
Well, now I am able to have the best of both worlds - listen to my podcasts while being able to hear the girls at the same time - thanks to AfterShokz Trekz Air headphones.
Seriously, these headphones are like no other. They use bone conduction technology, which means they send mini vibrations through your cheekbones directly to your inner ear, ensuring your ears remain completely open to hear ambient sounds.
At first, I was a little hesitant. It felt weird not having something in my ear. But, after a few minutes I was used to being able to hear that ambient nose (aka the dishwasher running, the washing machine spinning or the girls doing what they do). They are lightweight and bluetooth enabled, so no need to carry my phone around with me or worry about a cord as with traditional headphones.
AfterShokz Trekz Air headphones come in four different colours (slate grey, forest green as pictured in the photos above, midnight blue and canyon red) and retail for $189.95 Canadian. Learn more about these innovative headphones here.
Stay tuned for an upcoming post on my husband and I’s favourite podcasts and what we’re currently listening to!
